Amway defends Doug DeVos $500,000 Anti-Gay Marriage Donation To NOM…

I posted the other day about Doug DeVos, president of Amway and the $500,000 dollar donation he made to the National Organisation for Marriage (NOM), who’s sole purpose is to fight gay marriage. Amway has now come out in defense of his donation and they have no shame about it. Scums…

Openly gay politician Fred Karger urged a boycott against Amway because of the donation. DeVos gave $500,000 to the National Organization for Marriage Education Fund through his Douglas & Maria DeVos Foundation in 2009.

It is the “largest family donation to NOM in its history,” Karger said.

In a statement, Amway notes that the owners “believe the highest calling of any individual is to express their own personal beliefs as a participant in the democratic process.”

“As private citizens, the DeVos family supports causes and organizations that advocate for policies aligned to their personal beliefs,” said an Amway spokeswoman.

She emphasized that Amway “supports policies that create favorable conditions for global businesses” and that the “Amway opportunity is open to everyone.”

Let me just make something really clear, NOM is not just some right wing group that supports conservative ideals. NOM was specifically formed in 2007 to pass California Proposition 8 which overturned gay marriage. The hate group also opposes civil unions and gay adoptions. So this donation is specifically geared toward promoting hate and denying gay people equality. Pure discrimination. So this makes Doug DeVos is a out douchebag of the day…
