UConn Hockey Team Slap Shots Homophobia…
The young men of UConn’s hockey team want”s to put and end to homophobia and let it been know that UConn is a place for gay palyers. “You Can Play” Project is and organisation that fights homophobia in sports.
Garrett Bartus is a senior goalie for UConn who says in the PSA, “UConn Hockey is proud to stand with the You Can Play Project to end homophobia in sports.”
Bartus said everyone is welcome to play, whether they’re gay or straight.
“It shows people in the locker room getting behind the idea and supporting it and supporting the people who are, so it really helps getting the word out,” Bartus said.
Several of the team’s captains approached head coach Bruce Marshall about creating the video.
“Our team really jumped on it,” Marshall said, “They came to me about it and I said ‘You need to be behind it, you can’t just do it because it sounds good today. It has to be something you want to really support.’”
