Homophobic Twitter comment about Gareth Thomas gets footballer Lee Steele fired…

This is a good example of consequences for your actions. I don’t understand how people are so dumb to think that homophobic comments in today’s world are not going to get your ass in trouble? Can we get  a brain “up in here”…

Oxford City Football Club have punted to the unemployment line a player for homophobic remarks made on Twitter about former Wales rugby star Gareth Thomas.

In a lewd message sent via the popular microblogging site, striker Lee Steele said “I wouldn’t fancy the bed next to Gareth Thomas. #padlock my a**e”

A spokesman for the club said: “Following a board meeting last night the club have issued the following brief statement to the FA.

“The Oxford City board have decided to release Lee Steele in view of his recent comment via social media which is considered seriously contrary to the ethos of the club.”

Mike Ford, manager of the Southern Premier League club, said: “On this occasion Lee’s had to pay for his error of judgement.”

He added: “He’s made a homophobic comment, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s homophobic.”
