Today Gay tourism industry in United Statesstands for more than $60 Billion per year. Gay marriage ban will mean that Indianapolis will lose out on this money. This concerned of the local tourism industry is also shared by the Leonard Hoops, the new convention chief of Indianapolis.

He is also worried about the possible outcome of the gay marriage ban. Its not just Gay tourists but the people who support their cause may also boycott the city. Leonard Hoops is also worried about the affects of Immigration law on the tourism.

He is particularly worried about the immigration law especially after the reaction to the ArizonaSB 1070 Law. The tourism industry in Arizona has suffered massive losses since the introduction of the law. The boycott calls by the Civil Rights groups in United States has affected the tourism in Arizona. The state Department of Correctional Services has recently changed its regulations to allow conjugal visits for homosexual inmates who have entered into a same-sex marriage or a civil union. The regulation is a formalization of a policy initiated in 2008 by Governor Paterson, which required New York State agencies to recognize same-sex marriages and civil unions performed out of state. Peter Cutler, spokesman for the Department of Correctional Services, told the Daily News, "If they seek a furlough based on the partner, it's likely it would be granted." deets here

A video showing a transgender woman being vicious beaten at a Maryland McDonald's went viral on Friday.

In the three-minute video, a woman and a 14-year-old girl are seen repeatedly kicking, punching, and dragging the victim, a 22-year-old transgender woman, in a suburban Baltimore McDonald's. One employee and a patron attempt to intervene, but most of the witnesses stand idly by and several men can be heard laughing in the background.

The video was taken down from YouTube by site administrators, who said it violated the site's policies, but returned on several other sites, including the popular Drudge Report and World Star Hip Hop.

The attack took place on April 18, police said. Both suspects are being prosecuted by police.

McDonald's called the attack shocking.

“We are shocked by the video from a Baltimore franchised restaurant showing an assault,” the fast food giant said in a statement. “This incident is unacceptable, disturbing and troubling. McDonald's strives to be a safe, welcoming environment for everyone who visits.”

Gay rights group Equality Maryland has called on officials to investigate the case as a hate crime.

“It does appear that the victim was a transgender woman, and she was brutalized while people stood by and watched,” said the group's Lisa Polyak. “There's no excuse for that violence under any circumstance, but we would encourage police to investigate as a hate crime.”

Tennessee state senator Stacey Campfield (pictured) doesn’t want public school teachers to tell students anything about homosexuality — and he wants to debate his “don’t say gay” bill with gay playwright and filmmaker Del Shores.

A senate committee this week voted 6-3 to advance Campfield’s bill to consideration by the full senate, reports theKnoxville News Sentinel.The legislation would prohibit teachers from discussing homosexuality in public school classes in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Campfield, a Republican from Knoxville, advocated for such a measure, without success, for six years in the state house of representatives before he was elected to the senate. The senate education committee approved the bill Wednesday after various changes in wording and discussion as to whether it was needed. All the no votes came from Democrats.

Campfield has received criticism from some quarters for seeking a $1,000 retainer fee from Shores, of Sordid Lives fame, to debate the bill with Shores in Texas. Tennessee has a law barring legislators receiving compensation, other than salary and expenses due from the state, for anything related to their duties. Another statute prohibits them from receiving honorariums for speaking engagements, aside from travel expenses. State ethics officials say the fee probably would not violate the former law but may violate the latter, although a formal complaint would have to be filed to start an investigation. deets here

Now that voters have recalled three of the Iowa supreme court justices who voted for marriage equality, Republicans in the legislature want to impeach the rest.

Five Republicans in the state house of representatives filed articles of impeachment Thursday targeting the four remaining justices who participated in the unanimous 2009 decision: Mark Cady, Brent Appel, Daryl Hecht, and David Wiggins, The Iowa Independent reports.

The impeachment resolutions were filed by Tom Shaw, Dwayne Alons, Betty De Boef, Glen Massie, and Kim Pearson. Their resolutions were referred to the house judiciary committee and will likely die there, but they nonetheless drew strong criticism from Democratic politicians and judicial watchdog groups.

Democratic state representative Kevin McCarthy issued a statement calling on house speaker Kraig Paulsen and majority leader Linda Upmeyer to “either publicly condemn your own Republican members as well as members of the Republican Party for offering this outrageous, extremist proposal ... or allow a full and open impeachment proceeding for all Iowans to consider knowing house Democrats will use every available procedural tool to shut down the Iowa house and defeat this right-wing effort.” The nonpartisan group Justice Without Politics deemed the resolutions “a sad attempt to misuse the impeachment process for political gain” and “completely out of touch with Iowans.” deets here

Rapper Lil B said that he is receiving death threats because of his decision to name his next album, “I’m Gay.”

MTV News reports on the death threats that fans have sent using social media. The rapperannounced the new album name from the stage at Coachella earlier this month.

"People been hitting me up like, 'I'm gonna bash your head in,' 'you f----t,' 'I'm gonna kill you,' " said the rapper.

Lil B said he that is heterosexual but “gay” in the sense of happy. He insists that the album name is not a gimmick, a point raised by GLAAD, which said that it hoped his album represented “a sincere attempt to be an ally.”

The rapper said, "I got major love for the gay and lesbian community, and I just want to push less separation and that's why I'm doing it. I hope GLAAD sees that I'm taking initial steps to break barriers."

Although Lil B said some fans have turned against him because of the album name, he remains undeterred. A release is planned for iTunes in the next month or so.

Louis Marinelli, the former National Organization for Marriage tour director who announced his opposition this month, said that president Brian Brown directed him to make rival LGBT campaigners look as “crazy” as possible, even when that required distortion of the facts.

Marinelli writes about the experience on his blog, where he said that NON president Brian Brown instructed him “to specifically take ‘crazy’ photos of gays and lesbians,” with one e-mail from July last year that said, “I need crazy pictures of our opponents.”

According to Marinelli, “The National Organization for Marriage’s culture war/crusade against same-sex marriage is all about image and when it comes to the image of the LGBT community, it’s all about painting them in a negative way. That is why during the summer for marriage tour, a project of my doing which I organized with NOM last year, each of the rallies were presented in a good v.s. evil type theme.”

As one example of distortion, he recalls silent counter-protesters to a NOM rally in Albany, New York. The NOM blog described their quiet opposition as “intolerant, inconsiderate bullies who shout down and insult anyone who disagrees with them, including women and children.

In Marinelli’s view, the deception makes NOM worthy of classification as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, which applies the label to the Family Research Council and the American Family Association because of their misrepresentation of facts. SPLC did not list NOM among the hate groups last year, but Marinelli called that a “mistake.” deets here

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — A Montana judge on Thursday rejected a lawsuit that sought to extend to gay couples the same legal protections as married couples, saying in his decision that he can't grant the benefits partly because of the state's voter-approved constitutional definition of marriage as between a man and a woman.

Last year, the American Civil Liberties Union filed the lawsuit on behalf of the gay couples, arguing that the guarantees in the Montana Constitution of equal protection, privacy and dignity should require the state to afford the legal rights to the gay couples. The ACLU said it plans to appeal the case to the Montana Supreme Court.

The gay couples weren't asking for the right in the lawsuit to marry, which the Montana Constitutional defines as between a man and a woman. Rather they wanted to be able to make burial, health care and other decisions, while enjoying such benefits as jointly filing taxes. deets here

Maggie Gallagher says she didn’t set out to attack the idea of marriage rights for same-sex couples — the issue simply came to the forefront when she was trying to create a “marriage culture.” What’s more, she says, she and her allies are victims of “hatred.”

Gallagher, perhaps the nation’s leading opponent of marriage equality, made these assertions in a speech to the Sutherland Institute, a conservative Utah think tank, at its annual dinner Wednesday night in Salt Lake City.

“I avoided the discussion of gay marriage as long as I possibly could,” Gallagher said, according to Salt Lake City’s Deseret News. When Massachusetts became the first state to allow same-sex couples to marry, though, she feared it meant a change in the common understanding of marriage, and she created the National Organization for Marriage.

Her problem with marriage equality? “By the very act of declaring that two men in a union are in a marriage we are announcing that marriage has nothing to do with bringing mothers and fathers and children together,” she told the dinner guests.

She also contended that opponents of same-sex marriage are unfairly characterized as intolerant: “You are like a bigot who is opposed to interracial marriage.” She painted her side of the debate as victimized, saying supporters of marriage rights for gay couples are “raising the cost of speaking out ... by directing a relentless torrent of accusations and hatred against anyone who speaks, no matter how civilly, for marriage.”

Police said a woman bit her boyfriend’s penis during an argument earlier this month.

According to Coralville Police, officers responded to 617 Fourth Ave. on April 11 after a 911 call came from that residence.

Police said 32-year-old Lucina V. Kinder and her live-in boyfriend got in an argument that escalated when Kinder punched her boyfriend – who is not identified – in the face, scratched his shoulder and then bit his penis, causing it to bleed. The two have been living together for more than a year, police said.

Kinder was arrested this week and charged with domestic assault without intent to cause injury, a serious misdemeanor. deets here

The law firm King & Spalding has become the new face of the anti-gay marriage movement — in signing on to defend the Defense of Marriage Act in federal court, the firm has also silenced its employees from advocating in support of same-sex marriage.

OnHouse GOP and Spearker John Boehner (R-Ohio) retained former President George W. Bush’s Solicitor General Paul Clement — a partner in the D.C. law firm King & Spalding — to defend the constitutionality of DOMA.

The contract, which was entered into with U.S. House of Representatives General Counsel Kerry Kircher on behalf of the House’s Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group to defend DOMA in court, contains a provision that prohibits all King & Spalding attorneys and non-attorney employees from any advocacy to “alter or amend” DOMA.

The paragraph in question states that “partners and employees who do not perform services pursuant to this Agreement will not engage in lobbying or advocacy for or against any legislation … that would alter or amend in any way the Defense of Marriage Act and is pending before either the U.S. House of Representatives or the U.S. Senate or any committee of either body during the term of the Agreement.”

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has called King & Spalding’s decision to take up the defense of DOMA a “shameful stain” on the firm’s reputation.

The gag order “provision adds insult to injury,” Fred Sainz, HRC’s vice president of communications, told Metro Weekly. “Not only is K&S promoting discrimination, they also are muzzling their own employees from opposing discrimination and doing what’s right.” deets here

MARION COUNTY, Fla. -- A 15-year-old boy was shot to death and stuffed into a sleeping bag before being burned in a bonfire and dumped into water, Marion County deputies said Wednesday. Investigators said he was lured into a house by his ex-girlfriend then beaten by a gang of older teens.

Six people are in jail, including the teen's 15-year-old ex-girlfriend, Amber Wright. They're accused of killing Seath Jackson in a Summerfield home on S.E. 53rd Avenue in Marion County on Sunday, and then trying to cover up the crime by burning his body.

WFTV spoke with Jackson's closest friends on Wednesday. They said he spent Sunday at their house and Wright texted him non-stop, telling him she wanted to get back together. Detectives said the texts were part of a plan to lure Jackson to the home shared by her friends.

Jackson's friend, Jeremy Williams, said he cannot move past the shock.

"She was calling and texting and telling him she wanted to get back with him," Williams said.

Once inside the home, Jackson was hit in the head with some kind of wooden object and was shot multiple times, according to detectives. When Jackson made an attempt to leave the house, he was tackled, held and shot again, deputies said.

"He was beaten in the head with a wooden object; it may have been an ax handle. He was shot once, he was able to break free, he was tackled and he was shot once again," said Judge Cochran of the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrested Wright, 18-year-old Charlie Kay Ely, 18-year-old Michael S. Bargo, 20-year-old Justin Soto, and 16-year-old Kyle Hooper, who is Wright's brother, and charged them with first-degree murder.

"He was dragged into the bathroom where he was beaten some more and shot once again," Cochran said.

Wright's stepfather, 37-year-old James Havens, was also arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder. According to investigators, Bargo was the mastermind behind the murder plot.

According to a sheriff's office report, Jackson's body was placed in a bathtub and his knee caps were broken. His body was hog tied and then placed into a sleeping bag and then burned in bonfire.

Jackson's remains were then shoveled into several 5-gallon paint containers and dumped it in the water at a local lime quarry, allegedly with Haven's help, detectives said.

The details are too much for Jackson's friends to take, and they were there when his parents found out what happened.

"It was really hard. A bunch of his friends were there and the look on his parent's face was just horrible," said friend Carrie Williams. "I'm astounded that people can do that to a child."

Actor-activist James Duke Mason has launched a new video campaign called Trailblazer, in which established openly gay performers encourage closeted gay and lesbian actors to come out.

"Hollywood has always been a trendsetter and voice for political and social progress, and that's why the Trailblazer Campaign is so important and why it has the potential to make a huge difference," Mason tells The Advocate. "If the campaign can help to encourage more and more actors to come out and express their true selves, then that will have a huge impact on the industry and in turn on America and the world. A message of equality will be heard everywhere, and change will eventually happen."

Mason is the 18-year-old son of singer Belinda Carlisle and former Reagan staffer Morgan Mason, as well as the grandson of legendary film star James Mason. His first film, What Happens Next, will premiere at the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival on April 27. The mother of a Texas teenager who committed suicide last year filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday, arguing the school he attended did nothing after receiving complaints he was being bullied.

Asher Brown, 13, an eighth-grader at Hamilton Middle School, shot himself to death at home last fall.

Amy Truong, Asher's mother, also names Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District in the lawsuit. She argues the middle school staff witnessed some incidents of bullying, physical assaults and name-calling against her son. Despite a policy on bullying and harassment, the suit states, district personnel "had an actual practice and custom of looking the other way."

Last year, Truong and the boy's stepfather told CNN's Anderson Cooper that Asher was bullied because he was small, did not wear fashionable clothing and was a Buddhist. They also said Asher told them he was gay and had received taunts about his sexuality.

The school district had no immediate reaction Tuesday. According to the lawsuit, it has stated there was no evidence of any bullying or complaints filed on behalf of Asher. But the lawsuit says his stepfather, David Truong, went to the school district to talk about Asher being bullied.

The Truongs said they are lobbying the Texas Legislature for anti-bullying reform legislation, according to CNN affiliate KPRC.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified punitive damages and asks that the school adopt a policy known as "Asher's Rule" in which students can confidentially report bullying and harassment. deets here

WESTMINSTER – Two married teachers face arraignment Friday on charges they engaged in illegal sex acts with a 17-year-old boy for several months after they groomed him by plying him with alcohol and entertaining him in their Huntington Beach home.

Gay Davidson-Shepard, 59, a teacher at Mesa View Middle School in Huntington Beach, faces up to eight years and four months in prison if convicted of the charges.



Her husband, Daniel Alma Shepard, 61, a retired Westminster High School biology teacher, could spend five years behind bars if the charges stick.

Both are accused of sexually assaulting the alleged victim starting in April 2009 after they got into their hot tub naked and encouraged the minor to do the same.

Daniel Shepard allegedly continued to engage in illegal sex acts with the boy on a weekly basis through September 2009, while his wife is charged with doing the same through December 2009, when the boy turned 18.

Prosecutors allege that Daniel Shepard first befriended the boy when he was a student at Westminster High.

In addition to allegedly engaging in illegal sex with a minor, Daniel Shepard is accused of asking the boy to email him nude photos of himself and of taking nude photographs of the victim and the illegal sex acts.

"I am deeply offended that during this Holy Week, which is a most sacred time to millions of New Yorkers, Governor Andrew Cuomo is working hard to mobilize elected officials to legalize homosexual marriage in New York,” said the Bronx Democrat and Pentecostal minister, who has two gay brothers and a lesbian granddaughter but pointedly rejects the label of "homophobe."

While his may be the loudest objection, it certainly will not be the last, or even the most significant. The ability of Diaz to influence proceedings by threatening to caucus with the other side has largely been neutralized in the Republican-controlled senate, leaving other marriage equality opponents with more sway on the majority party. In conversations with The Advocate, some of those forces said they stand ready to launch their own campaign against marriage equality in the coming days.

Yankovic planned to release a single and music video based on Gaga's "Born This Way" titled, "Perform This Way." The song is a take on her ostentatious presence and outlandish style, on and off stage.

Yankovic posted the song on his YouTube account Wednesday, with an account on his blog about the runaround he received from the Gaga team. Hours later, he posted an update, saying that the pop star had not actually heard the song. Instead, it was revealed that her manager did not pass the information along, and rejected the song on her behalf. However, Gaga approved the song Wednesday, and her manager apologized.

Typically, Yankovic asks artists for permission to record a satiric version of their original songs, and sometimes even collaborates with the artists. However, Yankovic said on his website Wednesday, that he was asked to pitch the song to Gaga's team three times, which even resulted in him recording a version of the song for her to approve before proceeding to put the song on the album. He added that the proceeds from the song would go to the Human Rights Campaign.

The Virginia Board of Social Services voted Wednesday against adding language to adoption regulations that would have barred discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

The Richmond-Times Dispatch reports that the 7-2 vote came after emotional public testimony on both sides of the debate, with one executive director of a faith-based group calling the addition of such language “an unacceptable violation of the freedom of conscience upon which our pluralistic society is based, and even of the religious freedom upon which our commonwealth and our country were built."

Though single individuals and married couples can adopt in the state, unmarried couples are barred from doing so. Yet according to statistics from the Family Equality Council based on 2000 census estimates, about 3,300 same-sex couples are currently raising about 6,700 children in the state. Under state law, only one parent is allowed to have custody.

“Today, the State Board of Social Services told the 1,300 children already waiting for a loving, forever home that they’ll have to wait longer,” Human Rights Campaign president Joe Solmonese said of the vote.

A spokesman for Gov. Bob McDonnell said Wednesday that he "believes the existing adoption regulations are effective and fair." deets here
