Hawaii Passes Civil Unions....

The Hawaii house of representatives passed a bill Friday to legalize civil unions in the state after more than a decade of contentious debate with a vote of 31-19, theAssociated Press reports.

The state senate passed the same bill last month. Gov. Neil Abercrombie is expected to sign the bill into law.

Evan Wolfson, the founder and president of Freedom to Marry was co-counsel in the landmark Hawaii marriage case, Baehr v. Miike, which in the 1990s launched the current nationwide conversation around the freedom to marry.

"This is a victory for all families, because it strengthens the lives of many couples and their loved ones while taking nothing away from anyone else, thereby strengthening the entire ohana, the entire community," he said in a statement Friday. "Freedom to Marry applauds Equality Hawaii for its leadership in securing needed protections for Hawaii’s families."
State lawmakers passed similar legislation last year, but former Gov. Linda Lingle vetoed the bill.

Singer Wanted In Connection To A Death....

A singer is being sought for questioning in connection with the death of a woman following a cosmetic procedure, police said Friday.

Claudia Aderotimi, 20, died early Tuesday, shortly after receiving buttocks enhancements in a hotel room near Philadelphia International Airport, according to police. The procedure allegedly cost $1,800.

Police say singer Black Madam -- whom they have identified as Padge Victoria Windslowe, 41 -- is believed to be the person who injected Aderotimi with a substance that was supposed to be silicone.

Truthfully, i have never heard of Black Madam....

Gaga Atop A Mountain....

Publicists for Lady Gaga say they had nothing to do with a Christ-like image of the pop star that appeared a top Los Angeles’ Runyon Canyon in advance of the Grammy Awards on Friday.

People who frequent the popular Hollywood hiking and jogging trails were greeted with the gigantic painting of Gaga Friday morning.

"Here is what I stumbled up on during my morning jog before work," tipster Alexis Zimmer said in an e-mail to NBC Los Angeles.

"I took pictures of what looks like an gigantic painting of Lady Gaga with a crown of thorns on her head with blood. The painting is laying flat all the way on top of the hill near by the benches..."

I hike Runyon Canyon on the weekends, they couldn't do this on a Saturday morning?

Liz Taylor Hospitalized....

Legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor is being treated in a Los Angeles hospital for "symptoms caused by congestive heart failure," her representative said Friday.

Taylor, 78, checked into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center this week for the "ongoing condition," Taylor representative Jamie Cadwell said.

"This issue is being addressed," Cadwell said. "She is currently being kept in the hospital for monitoring."

Her publicist gave CNN more detail in a statement later Friday evening.

"I can assure you she is fine and even better, comfortable," Sally Morrison said.

GOProud Member Does Not Hart The Gays...

A 22-year-old college student attending the CPAC conference with the gay conservative group GOProud took time out from the event to tellMetro Weeklyhe doesn't much care for gay people and that only "straight acting" gay people are normal.

Matt Hinsey told Metro Weekly's Ebone Bell: "I don't really like gay people that much. Gay people frustrate me, the stereotypical gay people, it frustrates me...someone who puts on a total act. I understand that some guys are feminine, which is fine. But some guys, at some point, are normal, straight-acting, whatever and the next minute they're jumping up and down. It just frustrates me. The whole conservative thing is just be yourself, be an individual and just don't be someone you're not. If someone does or does not accept you, that's fine but don't change who you are to look different to others."

Hinsey also says he wants Sarah Palin to run for president in 2012 because she reminds him of his mother.

How sad. Hinsey needs to brush up on history, part of the reason the gay culture, one in which that he belongs to was born and is based on, is to acceptance of everyone. It is about gay people coming together when society and families are not supportive because of our differences. Isn't that part of the reason Hinsey is at an event that is notoriously anti-gay? Hinsey is only 22 so i will give him slack for his inexperience and lack of wisdom...Now as for the Sarah Palin comment, i wont even go there!

The Penis Chronicles....

If you are looking for cute way to spend your valentines day, this may be the show to take your date to.
As a kick-off to "V-Week," which culminates with the Vagina Monologues, both male and female performers will take to the mic to express their experiences with the male appendage in the first-ever Penis Chronicles. The show, scheduled for Feb 14 at 6 p.m. in the Green Bean, was created in an effort to bring more male involvement to V-Week.  Most years, the Vagina Monologues has a primarily female audience, so the Penis Chronicles is a way to change this according to Vagina Monologues member Maggie Berrigan (sophomore).
The Penis Chronicles will consist of a variety of performances all dealing with different male issues. The all-male a-cappella group Cadence, the men of Phi Psi and The Ugly Sweaters, will perform.
"The performance will be exciting and riveting, maybe even a little bit sensual… actually definitely a little bit sensual," said the drummer for the Ugly Sweater Seth Hansen (senior). He even gave an exclusive teaser about the performance.
"All I can say is that we will be performing a well-known song by the Electric Six that is very appropriate for the theme of the night," Hansen said.
The Vagina Monologues, performed at Occidental every year, is a collection of short narratives written by Eve Ensler based upon interviews with women about their experiences with their lady parts. This year, the Vagina Monologues will take place on Friday, Feb 18 at 7 pm in Thorne Hall.
The sensitive subject of the show, according Berrigan and Brewington, has in the past turnedfrom attending.
"People are normally afraid, but it's not a scary experience. They are all about supporting and empowering women," Berrigan said.
Each year, the proceeds from the Monologues go towards supporting women's rights in a different country—this year's country is Haiti. Throughout V-Week, students will get an opportunity to learn more about Haiti and the women's issues that exist there.

West Hollywood Man Arrested On Gay Cruise Ship Selling Drugs...

A cruise ship passenger from California has been arrested for allegedly selling drugs to fellow passengers on a Caribbean cruise.

Add CommentU.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Jeffrey Quniones says 51-year-old Steven Barry Krumholz of West Hollywood was arrested in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Allure of the Seas had come from the Bahamas on a charter billed as the “world’s largest gay cruise,” run by Atlantis.

Man Tries To Smuggle "Noah's Ark" Through Customs...

An alleged would-be smuggler was caught at a Thailand airport with dozens of rare wildlife -- including snakes, squirrels and tortoises -- stuffed into three suitcases, a wildlife monitoring organization says.

The Indonesian man, whose name was not released, was stopped at Suvarnabhumi International Airport on Wednesday, according to a news release from Traffic, an organization that fights wildlife trafficking.

The man had purchased the wildlife at Bangkok's Chatuchak Market and was attempting to smuggle them out of the country, the organization said. He was stopped after a regular luggage scan revealed the animals.

According to the organization, the man carried 88 Indian star tortoises, 33 elongated tortoises, seven radiated tortoises, six mata mata turtles and four Southeast Asian narrow-headed softshell turtles. He also had three Aldabra tortoises, one pig-nosed turtle, and one ploughshare tortoise, which Traffic described as the world's rarest tortoise. But that wasn't all that the man stuffed into his luggage. Authorities also found 34 ball pythons, two boa constrictors, several milk snakes, corn snakes and king snakes and one hog-nosed snake, Traffic says.

According to the organization, there also were 19 bearded dragon lizards, four spiny-tailed lizards, two Sudan plated lizards and six Argentine horned frogs.

And, to top it off, there were 18 baboon spiders, 22 common squirrels and one African grey parrot inside the suitcases, Traffic says.

A New Gay City Is Born....

Almost a dozen architecture firms have created designs for a proposed gay-centric, pedestrian-friendly community not far from Palm Springs, Calif.
Called Boom, the community would house 300 residences and eight neighborhoods in a space of 100 acres. While originally conceived by a Los Angeles developer as a gay-centered community, Boom would be open to anyone. Aside from homes, amenities include an entertainment center and a "rooftop mist disco."
Located in Rancho Mirage, Boom has not yet started to wend its way through the city approval process, but its developer hopes to break ground next year and finish construction in late 2014. The project's first phase would cost about $250 million to develop.

Dr. Phil, Wtf?

Dr. Phil advises a parent whose son likes to play with girls’ toys and wear girls’ clothing to “take the girl things away, and buy him boy toys” on his website’s “Ask Dr. Phil” section.

Robbie tells Dr. Phil that her 5-year-old son likes to play with Barbies and likes to wear girls’ clothing, which she doesn’t think is normal. In the segment, she asks the talk-show host how to deal with his behavior.

“There are developmental stages in kids, and it is not unusual, particularly for young boys, to experiment and get stuck on certain stimulus items,” he says. “This is not a precursor to your son being gay.”

Dr. Phil, who recently has increased his support for gay and lesbian teens, particularly when it comes to bullying in schools, then suggests that the solution is to take the girls’ toys away from the boy.

“Direct your son in an unconfusing way. Don't buy him Barbie dolls or girls’ clothes. You don’t want to do things that seem to support the confusion at this stage of the game. ... Take the girl things away, and buy him boy toys.

“Support him in what he’s doing, but not in the girl things.”
Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation President Jarrett Barrios said in a statement to The Advocate that Dr. Phil's advice sends the message to children that they should confirm to the "narrow stereotypes of gender roles.

Anti-Gay Rep. Resigns After Sending Shirtless Photos...

New York GOP representative Christopher Lee has resigned in a statement read on the House floor after a shirtless photo of him soliciting a woman he met on Craigslist surfaced Wednesday.

“It has been a tremendous honor to serve the people of Western New York," he said. "I regret the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents. I deeply and sincerely apologize to them all. I have made profound mistakes and I promise to work as hard as I can to seek their forgiveness. The challenges we face in Western New York and across the country are too serious for me to allow this distraction to continue, and so I am announcing that I have resigned my seat in Congress effective immediately.”

The married, socially conservative (and antigay) Republican congressman reportedly sent flirtatious messages and a sexy picture of himself to a woman he met on Craigslist.

The woman, a 34-year-old government employee from Maryland, had placed a personal ad on Craigslist in January, seeking “financially & emotionally” secure men, website Gawker reports. She received a reply from a man using Gmail address belonging to Rep. Christopher Lee of western New York State. The correspondent identified himself as Christopher Lee and described himself as a “very fit fun classy guy,” age 39 (seven years younger than Lee’s actual age), a lobbyist, and divorced. He went on to provide a photo of Lee, shirtless.

The woman ended contact with Lee after she searched online for him and concluded he’d lied about his age and occupation, then forwarded the e-mail exchanges to Gawker.

A spokesman for Lee confirmed to Gawker this week that the e-mail account belonged to the congressman but said Lee had not sent the messages and believed his account had been hacked. “That could, theoretically, be true,” Gawker’s Maureen O’Connor observed. “But the evidence suggests otherwise.”

She also noted that Lee’s “support for ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ and vote to reject federal abortion funding suggests a certain comfort with publicly scrutinizing others’ sex lives.”

The New iPad Already??

Apple's production partners are already hard at work on the new model of iPad, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

The fact that Apple is working on an iPad 2, of course, is common knowledge. The famously tight-lipped company rarely talks about upcoming product launches, and isn't talking now. But Apple has never denied that it intends to follow up on one of its most successful products.

Nearly $5 billion worth of iPads have been sold in the three quarters since its launch. And a quick glance at the history of the iPhone, which launches a new model every year, suggests that we should expect to see the iPad 2 right around the first anniversary of its predecessor's launch: April 3, 2011.

And im sure it will sell a kabillion....

U.S. Holding Aid Money To Malawi....

The U.S. is delaying $350 million in aid to Malawi until talks commence on the African nation's limits on personal freedom.

A U.S. embassy spokesman didn't elaborate on what human rights abuses the Americans were hoping to see ended. Last year, after Malawi convicted a gay couple of gross indecency and sentenced them to 14 years in prison — a decision later overturned — Western nations responded with rebuke and then-U.S. presidential press secretary Robert Gibbs condemned the action.

Germany has pulled back on aid to Malawi, citing its criminalization of homosexuality and its restrictions on the press.

It should hold money until the gay hatting country learns to change their anti-gay ways...Maybe Madonna should take a lesson from our country and stop her financial aide to the bigoted country. Seeing that it was her gay fans that made her....Poppa don't preach Madge.....

Iowa House Bill Would Allow Discrimination Against Gays....

Will the hate ever stop?

It would be legal for an Iowa business owner who cites religious beliefs to refuse to provide jobs, housing, goods or services to people involved in a marriage that violates his or her religious convictions, according to a bill an Iowa House subcommittee will consider on Wednesday.

House Study Bill 50, called the Religious Conscience Protection Act, would allow a person, business or organization such as a charity or fraternal group to deny services without fear of facing a civil claim or lawsuit if they think doing so would validate or recognize same-sex relationships.

The same-sex exclusion is by itself constitutionally troubling, several legal scholars and civil rights activists said.

Preacher Charges $159 Bucks Per Person To Get DADT Reinstated....

Former Navy Chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt is charging his followers $159 each to fax anti-DADT repeal petitions to members of Congress. Klingenschmitt was dishonorably discharged for insubordination in 2007 after refusing to stop wearing his uniform to protests outside the White House.

He continues to lie about that on his website, where he claims he was fired for "praying in Jesus' name." He also has issued "imprecatory prayers" which cite a scriptural verse calling for the deaths of his adversaries, a move apparently endorsed by Peter LaBarbera, who today approving tweets links to Klingenschmitt's efforts.  via Joemygod

Lols, yeah good luck with that one. I am sure he will get a "ton" of people paying $159 bucks to send a useless fax....Although he may get John McCain and Tim Pawlenty....

Soap, One Life To Live, Homophobic??

I said in a post yesterday that i am a huge soap fan. I watch ABC soaps. But i will say One Life To Live is my favorite. Now i just read this article about OLTL possible being homophobic. I will say i was not to happy when they wrote of they gay story line last year. I was great. And if they caved into complaints, that is very dis-hearting....

This time last year, One Life to Live had some of the most gay-inclusive story lines on television: A mass gay wedding, a front-burner story involving a gay couple (played by out actor Scott Evans and Brett Claywell), and a woman pretending to be a lesbian to improve her chances of being elected mayor.

What a difference a year makes, says former All My Children writer turnedDeep Soap blogger Sara Bibel.

When the ABC soap’s gay romance coincided with a drop in the show’s ratings, the couple was quickly written off. “That does not explain why, out of the blue, last week’s episodes featured a plethora of borderline homophobic lines,” she writes.

It started with a story line about a pair of thugs who attempt to escape questioning by saying they are on their way to a PTA meeting. One of the men questioning them says, “OK, do you guys have kids together? Which one’s the mom? I think it’s you. Get the hell out of here.”

On last Wednesday’s episode, three of the show’s men strip at a bachelor party to Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy.” “Since when did this place become a gay bar, anyway?”the character of Todd asked upon arriving. He and his drunk friend then spent the rest of the scene pretending to be gay.

The following day, a shirtless Brody (Mark Lawson, pictured) opens the door to the cousin of his bride-to-be, having just spent the night with his friend John, who is also getting married. Upon opening the door, he says, “No, no, it’s not what you think. We’re getting married ... to Jessica and Natalie, not to each other.”

Bibel concludes, “Maybe I’m just being hyper politically correct. I realize that these are relatively innocuous remarks. Had I not watched three episodes in a block, I might not have noticed.

“But OLTL is a show that has won numerous awards from GLAAD. Headwriter Ron Carlivati is openly gay. I hold the show to a high standard on this issue.”

3 Teenagers Shot To Death In Mexico...2 U.S. Citizens...

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico – Three teenage boys were shot to death in the Mexican border city of Ciudad Juarez, at least two of them U.S. citizens and high school students in Texas, authorities said Monday.
The boys were killed at 4:22 p.m. Saturday while looking at cars in a dealership in the city across the border from El Paso, Texas, Chihuahua prosecutors' spokesman Arturo Sandoval said. One was found inside a white Jeep Cherokee and the other two in the courtyard.

There were no leads on suspects or a motive, Sandoval said. Two managers were also in the dealership during the attack. One refused to give a statement, while the statement from the other manager was not released because of the pending investigation, Sandoval added. At least 60 bullet casings were found at the scene.

One of the boys, Carlos Mario Gonzalez Bermudez, 16, was a sophomore at Cathedral High School in El Paso, said Nick Gonzalez, the Roman Catholic brother who is the principal. Another victim, Juan Carlos Echeverri, 15, had been a freshman at the private all-boys Catholic school last year but left to study in Ciudad Juarez, Gonzalez said.

Both were U.S. citizens, he said. The U.S. Embassy in Mexico City said it could provide no immediate information on the case.

The third teenager was identified as Cesar Yalin Miramontes Jimenez, 17.

There was a photo that accompanied this article, but i am not going to post photos of teenagers laying murdered on a street.

West Hollywood Votes To Ban Outdoor Smoking...

The West Hollywood City Council voted 3 to 2 on Monday night in favor of an outdoor smoking ban. One more vote is required and will occur on February 22 for the ordinance to be enacted. If it passes, it would take effect in January of 2012.

Councilmember Lindsey Horvath joined the most vocal opponent of the ban, John Duran, in voting against the measure. Until recently, Duran was the lone opponent of the ban on the Council.

Here is my thoughts, i live in WeHo, and although i am not a smoker, i do not think that they should ban it.

Gay History: Toronto Bathhouse Riots....

It’s been 30 years since hundreds of police officers raided four Toronto bathhouses as part of a calculated government-organized campaign to close gay businesses and send a message to the city’s newly visible LGBT community.
More than 300 men were arrested February 5, 1981. But rather than silencing them, the events of that night galvanized the city’s gays and kick-started a liberation movement that brought about positive change for Canada’s emerging out gay population.
Rage against the government and an antigay police force had been building since a 1975 raid on Montreal’s Sauna Aquarius. Six years later, Canadian gays had had enough. The night after the Toronto raids, more than 3,000 people gathered for a protest that eventually led to legal fights against censorship, support for AIDS services, and activism for partnership and employment rights as well as marriage equality.

Crazy Charles Manson Seeks New Trial....

Prominent attorney Giovanni Di Stefano, who has represented former Iraq dictator Saddam Hussein and his right-hand man, "Chemical Ali," or Ali Hassan al-Majid, is representing Charles Manson in his attempt for a new trial, Di Stefano told CNN on Monday.

Di Stefano has filed an application with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights on behalf of Manson, he said. The petition says Manson didn't receive a fair trial when he was convicted 40 years ago because, among other things, he was not allowed to represent himself, Di Stefano said.

The prosecutor in the Manson case, however, said Di Stefano's claim has no merit.

Yeah, good luck with that one crazy Charlie....

Tim Pawlenty Pathetically Trying To Get DADT Back....

Former Minnesota governor and possible 2012 presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty not only supports "don't ask, don't tell," he thinks the repeal process should not be funded.
Pawlenty, a Republican, was speaking Monday at a forum at an Iowa Christian high school. The event was sponsored by the Family Leader, an antigay Iowa group.
“We have to pay great deference to those combat units,” Pawlenty said, insisting that many top military leaders do not support the repeal of DADT. When asked whether funds for repeal implementation should be rescinded, Pawlenty said, "That would be a reasonable step, as well."

The CEO of DotGay LLC is one of many businesspeople from around the world who will converge in San Francisco this week to determine the future of the Internet.
DotGay LLC, headed by CEO Scott Seitz, is a company looking to build a network of 300,000 websites with addresses like PeopleOfColor.gay and Intersex.gay, according to its own website. The DotGay initiative would require sites to be run for social good, saying they "cannot be operated as just a 'marketing platform' or a piece of real estate to be subdivided based solely on economic imperatives."

Indiana Republicans Push Amendment Banning Gay Marriage....

Republican lawmakers in Indiana are resuming their push for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

A legislative hearing is scheduled for Monday. Opponents say the amendment isn't needed because Indiana law already bans gay marriage, but supporters worry that courts could overturn that law.

An amendment banning gay marriage passed the General Assembly in 2005 when Republicans controlled the House and Senate, but constitutional amendments must go through two separate Legislatures before being put to a public vote. In 2006, Democrats won control of the House and the proposal never cleared that chamber.

Republicans now control both chambers, giving the proposal a better shot of passing. If it clears the Legislature this year, it would have to pass again in 2013 or 2014 before getting on the ballot.

AOL Buys The Huffington Post....

AOL has agreed to purchase The Huffington Post for $315 million, the two entities announced in a joint news release Monday.

"As part of the transaction, Arianna Huffington, The Huffington Post's co-founder and editor-in-chief, will be named president and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post Media Group, which will include all Huffington Post and AOL content," the statement said.

The new group will have a combined 117 million unique visitors a month in the United States and 270 million around the world, according to the release, which cited December 2010 data from the marketing research company comScore.

"Our readers will still be able to come to the Huffington Post at the same URL, and find all the same content they've grown to love, plus a lot more -- more local, more tech, more entertainment, more finance, and lots more video," Huffington said in the statement.
