The mansion and four-acre estate featured in Francis Ford Coppola's 1972 film "The Godfather" is up for sale for a whopping $2.9 million.

Owner Jim Norton said he put the eight-bedroom, five-bathroom Staten Island home on the market after his father recently passed away.

The film employed a star-studded cast, including Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and Diane Keaton. Brando played fictional character Vito Corleone, the head of an organized crime family who transfers power to his reluctant son.

The film is based on a novel written by Mario Puzo and begins with a scene filmed at the iconic estate, where the aging Corleone accepts requests for favors during the wedding reception of his daughter Connie, played by Talia Shire.

The estate features a four-car garage, two fireplaces, an English pub and an in-ground swimming pool, Norton said.

His mother collected behind-the-scenes mementos from the film, including pictures and autographs from cast and crew members, he said.

Realtor Connie Profaci said the location was suggested by neighbor and co-star Gianni Russo, who played Corleone's son-in-law in the film.

"His family lived near the home and was familiar with the English Tudor enclave connecting Todt Hill and Emerson Hill," Profaci said. "Paramount producer Al Ruddy agreed and the rest was history."

At a second day of hearings on the Pentagon’s working study of “don’t ask, don’t tell” repeal, the respective heads of the military’s service branches presented split testimony that neither decisively doomed nor wholeheartedly endorsed repeal.

The vice chair of the Joint Chiefs, the Navy chief, and the commandant of the Coast Guard recommended repeal, while the chiefs of the Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps all expressed a varying degree of reservation about repealing “don’t ask, don’t tell” at this time.

Bryan Fischer, the "Director of Issues Analysis" for the conservative Christian group the American Family Association, doesn't think that taxpayers should fund AIDS research anymore, since "we know what causes AIDS: homosexual sex and injection drug use," and "since we know the cause, we know the cure: stop engaging in homosexual sex and stop shooting up with drugs."

"Homosexual activist groups likewise are pushing a lifestyle that kills," Fischer wrote Wednesday, on World AIDS Day. "If anybody should be obligated to pony up funds to mitigate a health crisis, it ought to be the organizations that are responsible for advocating the very behavior that created and perpetuates the epidemic."

"In other words, the same approach we take to kids and smoking," he wrote, adding: "American tobacco manufacturers were forced to cough up over $200 billion because they peddle a product that kills people."

The gay partner of a Missouri trooper killed in a Christmas Day accident sued Thursday for the survivor’s benefit denied him because the men’s 15-year relationship was not legally recognized by the state.

Cpl. Dennis Engelhard, 49, of the Highway Patrol was investigating an accident on Interstate 44 in Eureka when he was hit by a vehicle and killed.

Under Missouri law, spouses of Highway Patrol members and Department of Transportation workers killed on duty are entitled to an annuity of 50 percent of the employee’s salary.

Engelhard’s partner, Kelly Glossip, was denied the benefit — despite being named as beneficiary on other assets — because the men were not married, and even if they had been, their marriage would not have been recognized in Missouri.

The American Civil Liberties Union sued on Glossip’s behalf in Cole County Circuit Court, seeking to obtain the survivor’s benefit for Glossip and others who would find themselves in the same situation in the future.

The military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy leads to the spreading of disease and puts the health of servicemembers at risk, a doctor says in a new commentary in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Military personnel afraid of being honest about their sexual history to military physicians often don’t seek treatment for sexually transmitted diseases and may spread them to others, Dr. Kenneth Katz writes.

"The consequences of 'don't ask, don't tell' are clear. Infections go undiagnosed. Service members and their partners go untreated," wrote Katz, an STD specialist in San Diego County's Health and Human Services Agency.

Now is not the time to repeal the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy on gays serving in the armed forces, Sen. John McCain said at a hearing Thursday.

"At this time, we should be inherently cautious about making any changes that would affect our military, and what changes we do make should be the product of careful and deliberate consideration," the Arizona Republican said.

His position is not that the law should never be changed, he said, but that "it may be premature to make such a change at this time and in this manner."

In contrast, Defense Secretary Robert Gates urged that the repeal to be signed into law as soon as possible, to avoid the issue being taken up again by the judiciary, where a repeal could be ordered immediately, rather than on the military's timetable. A judicial fiat would be "hazardous," he added.

"This can be done, and should be done," Gates said of the policy change.

Prime Minister Raila Odinga said that he did not plan to order the arrest of all gay men and lesbians, and that his recent comments were merely intended to illustrate antigay propaganda.

Activists in the African country were panicked Sunday when the prime minister said in a public address that the new constitution called for the widespread arrest of gay men and lesbians. He also questioned why homosexuality was “necessary,” given that a recent census showed the populations of men and women to be equal.

Odinga added, “It was said that I ordered the arrest of gay people but nothing could be further from the truth. I did not say that. I was just explaining the propaganda used by people who were campaigning against the new constitution.”

The suicide of a "person of interest" in the shooting death of celebrity publicist Ronni Chasen will not end the investigation, Beverly Hills Police Lt. Tony Lee said Wednesday evening.

The man, described by a coroner's spokesman as a male in his early 40s, pulled a handgun and shot himself as Beverly Hills detectives tried to question him in the lobby of a low-rent Hollywood apartment building, Los Angeles Police Capt. Kevin McClure said.

Investigators did not reveal what role they believe this man played in Chasen's killing last month, but there were indications they suspect others were involved.

The coroner's office said early Thursday the man's identity would not be released for several hours, because authorities were working to notify his relatives.

Two teenagers previously thought among the perpetrators of a brutal antigay attack in the Bronx, New York are now being named as victims.

The gang-related torture at an abandoned building in Morris Heights shocked New York City in October as one of the most heinous hate crimes reported in years. Two teenage victims were targeted because of their involvement with an older man, whose brother also was attacked.

According to WNYC, “Until now, investigators have maintained there were four victims that night, two men and two teenagers. But the grand jury has named two new victims, Bryan Almonte and Brian Cepeda. Those are the same names of two of the defendants originally charged in the case and later released, though prosecutors have not confirmed they are the same people.

The Illinois state senate today passed a civil unions bill by a vote of 32-24, following the house’s approval of the legislation Tuesday. Gov. Pat Quinn has pledged to sign the bill, which will take effect in July.

Illinois joins 11 other states and the District of Columbia in providing some form of relationship recognition to same-sex couples, through marriage, civil unions, or domestic partnerships. Unmarried opposite-sex couples will be eligible for civil unions in Illinois as well.

Two men have pleaded guilty to robbery as a hate crime in the brutal beating of a gay man last year.

The men admitted to taunting Jack Price and yelling anti-gay slurs before punching and kicking him. It happened after he left a 24-hour deli near his home in Queens in October 2009.

Price suffered a fractured jaw and ribs, two collapsed lungs, and a lacerated spleen. He spent three weeks in the hospital.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown says 21-year-old Daniel Rodriguez pleaded guilty Tuesday. Daniel Aleman, who’s 27, pleaded guilty last week. They both face eight years in prison.

Michael Verdugo, the gay former Hollywood cop who lost his job after it was revealed he once appeared in a bondage porno film, was in court today, seeking to get his Hollywood badge back.

In August, Verdugo's Florida certification was reinstated, but he was still not allowed back on the Hollywood police force. Today, Verdugo and his lawyers argued that the arbitrator assigned to his case was biased, but the judge disagreed.

Though he won't be allowed back on the Hollywood force, after his court appearance, Verdugo -- a nine-year veteran who was fired from Hollywood PD for not disclosing his porno past on his job application -- said he is still optimistic about being hired elsewhere.

"It doesn't have to be Hollywood," Verdugo said, "but that was my home for a long time, there's a lot of great cops there, family there, so I wanted to go back there."

Verdugo said he's thankful that he still has his Florida certification.

"Thank god I won that, I can still be a cop, I can hold onto my certificate, so we'll see the next chapter."

Meet Alexander Ofner.

The South Carolina man, 39, was arrested yesterday afternoon at Sea Turtle Cinemas after Bluffton Police Department officers responded to a 911 call about Ofner’s alleged indecent exposure. Using the projection booth as an observation post (as “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” unspooled nearby), cops spotted Ofner in the act, according to police.

Ofner, seated in the theater’s back row, was then arrested for his alleged X-rated behavior during the PG-13 movie. He was booked into the Beaufort County Detention Center, where he posed for the above mug shot.

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Adult store owners in southern Idaho were baffled after police sent letters reminding them that the distribution of "obscene materials" is banned under state law.

Lena Johnson, who owns Enchantress in Twin Falls, said she found the letter, which does not define which of her store items are considered obscene under state law, to be vague.

"I don't have the slightest idea of what this is about," Johnson told the Times-News. "We try to do everything within the law to make sure we're doing things right."

Her storefront has a lingerie-clad mannequin and a neon-green sign that tells patrons they must be 18 or older, with ID to prove their age, to enter. It was among three businesses police warned last week in response to complaints from the community, Police Lt. Craig Stotts said.

The letters directed the businesses to check their inventories for potential violations of the Idaho code.

"They may not know or realize that some of their inventory may fit into this code. We are asking them to take steps to check their inventory and take steps to comply," Stotts said.

Police could not point out specifically which items in the three stores were found in violation of the law.

"That's something we'll have to answer once we have a true understanding of what their inventory consists of and what's in the code," Stotts said.

Allen Nagel, owner of the Smoke-N-Head, was frustrated with the lack of specifics in the letter.

"So, do I get rid of half of the inventory and hope that's what it is?" Nagel said.

The letter included a copy of the Idaho code regarding "obscene materials." Under that code, obscene material includes books, magazines, pictures, movies and other materials that the average person would find appeal to a shameful or morbid interest in sex or nudity when considered as a whole.

The ban includes materials that depict or describe ultimate sexual acts — normal or perverted — masturbation, or lewd exhibition of genitals or genital area.

What I would like to know is this. How were these people able to complain to the police about obscene materials in the store if they were not in the stores themselves? People, it comes down to this; mind your own business. Any adult has the right to enter any store of their choosing and for whatever reasons they like. And if it is a sex shop, more power to them. Maybe if these complainers loosened up their uptight asses they would have the gratifying experiences they are clearly missing...

SPRINGFIELD --- Civil unions would be allowed in Illinois beginning next year for same-sex couples under legislation the House passed today.

The 61-52 vote followed spirited debate on whether the action would be tantamount to legalizing gay marriage.

The makers of the anti-gay iPhone app the Manhattan Declaration are demanding that Apple execs explain why their app was pulled from iTunes last week.

The app, which encourages users to take a stand against marriage equality, had been available for download for use on iPhones and iPads. But in a statement, Apple officials said, “We removed the Manhattan Declaration app from the App Store because it violates our developer guidelines by being offensive to large groups of people.”

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Michael Mullen gave a press conference on the DADT report....

The victim says his injuries will heal, but Jerrid, who doesn't want to give his last name, isn't sure he'll be venturing back to downtown’s Brady District, where the attack happened, anytime soon. He believes this assault was a hate crime, and two men targeted him because of his sexual orientation.

When two men approached 25 year-old Jerrid and a friend outside a club, he felt something was up.

“We asked them if they were going to beat us up because they looked they were, they said no we're just looking for an after party,” Jerrid told FOX23 exclusively.

There wasn't an after party. Jerrid, openly gay, says within seconds, both he and his friend were punched. Jerrid was knocked unconscious.

Less than 48 hours after the incident, it's easy to see his scars, a busted lip and swollen face. For him, it is also easy to see that this was a hate crime.

“They were standing outside of a gay bar, and for them to exit their vehicle, their vehicle to go around the building, for them to pick them up after they punched us both, that's kind of a sign right there that something was going on.”

Elton John will perform a concert at the Beverly Hills estate of Ron Burkle on Jan. 19 to raise money for the legal challenge to Proposition 8, California's ban on same-sex marriage.

The proceeds from the event will support the American Foundation for Equal Rights, the org that is pursuing the challenge to the ban on gay nuptials, with Ted Olson and David Boies leading their legal team.

Perkins was on Hard Ball With Chris Mathews, debating pedophilia with Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). Perkins also credits The American College Of Pediatrics for his info. One small problem, the ACP has been widely discredited for their inaccurate information. They are an anti-gay group motivated by their anger over the American Academy Of Pediatrics, pro gay stance. Put simply the AAP conducts legitimate research on homosexuality and is basically the "bible" of pediatric healthcare standards. The ACP is nothing but a pure hate group. And Perkins knows this. By the way, one fun, fun, fun note: One of the ACP's top "researchers" was none other than George Rekers, who was famously caught last year renting a gay escort off of Rentboy.com....

The Pentagon study that argues that gay troops could serve openly without hurting the military's ability to fight is expected to re-ignite debate this month on Capitol Hill over repealing the 17-year-old "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

Officials familiar with the 10-month study's results have said a clear majority of respondents don't care if gays serve openly, with 70 percent predicting that lifting the ban would have positive, mixed or no results. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the findings hadn't been released.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen, who have both said they support repealing the law, were scheduled to discuss the findings with Congress Tuesday morning and with reporters Tuesday afternoon.

Mark Reed-Walkup and Dante Walkup, of Texas, are the first same-sex couple in the U.S. to use Skype to become legally married. But now their marriage has been ruled unacceptable.

A judge has rejected an attempt by the Minnesota Family Council to intervene in a lawsuit challenging state law that bans same-sex marriage. Three same-sex couples filed a lawsuit against the state of Minnesota earlier this year arguing that the Defense of Marriage Act signed into law in 1997 violates the state Constitution. The Family Council argued that it should be part of the lawsuit, in part, because if DOMA is ruled unconstitutional, it will cost them millions to fight same-sex marriage. The court said the group has no standing to defend DOMA.

“The Council’s alleged injuries would occur solely due to its sincerely-held belief that principles rooted in its interpretations of religious texts are best for the well-being of children and families, and that marriage only between one man and one woman accords with these principles,” wrote Minnesota Fourth District Court Judge Mary S. DuFrense (PDF). “The Court certainly understands that the Council feels strongly about the social issue of same-sex marriage. Strong feelings, however, do not establish a legal interest in a lawsuit.”
