Larry Kramer Says Barbara Streisand Finds Gay Sex Distasteful

42248_proAs we all know, there are some baaaaad feelings between Streisand and Kramer. Babs bought the films rights to Kramers soon to debut The Normal Heart, about a million years ago but could never get it made. Ryan Murphy of Glee and American Horror Story fame, snagged the rights and rolled.  Kramer has been taking barbs at babs and blaming her for failing to get it done.

In a new interview with the Times’ Patrick Healy, Kramer reveals that Streisand found some of the subject matter in the story uncomfortable, despite her role as an icon in the gay community.

“I said, ‘I really think it’s important that after eons of watching men and women make love in the movies, it’s time to see two men do so,’” Kramer told Healy. “I bought her a book of very beautiful art pictures of two men making love, and she found it very distasteful.”

In a statement responding to Kramer’s charge, Streisand said she decided to option the play “to promote the idea of everyone’s right to love. Gay or straight!”

“Larry was at the forefront of this battle and, God love him, he’s still fighting,” she said. “But there’s no need to fight me by misrepresenting my feelings. As a filmmaker, I have always looked for new and exciting ways to do love scenes, whether they’re about heterosexuals or homosexuals. It’s a matter of taste, not gender.”

Murphy used his own money to finance the film, something Kramer said “shows how much he wanted to do this, and how tacky it sort of is that Barbra never would think of something like that.”

I find these accusations or “convenient spins”, a bit weak and tacky. It sounds like she had would have had an issue with the nudity/sex regardless of the genders involved. Babs who has a gay son, has always been a major LGBT supporter. In 1992 She called for a boycott of  Colorado when the citizens voted for and passed  Amendment 2. Which voided and prevented the adoption of legislation that protects LGBT  from discrimination. Translation:  towns in Colorado could no longer pass any laws protecting gay people. The law was later ruled unconstitutional by the U.S. supreme court.

Anyway, the movie has now been made, They are both great people, so stop the trash talking fest Larry and move on.

Barbra tried for years to make this film. She introduced one of the stage productions before and after with hysterical crying. She saw this a s as opportunity to show the gay community as we see the straight community. She saw it as love rather than a cum shot on a bed sheet. All being said and done .. it’s a TV movie now. It is limited and does not have the vision it might have had. Streisand wanted the movie to begin with the various ,ale characters starting their day and all wind up in the same medical forum. Instead it’s the tired Fire Island role out. Does every gay “important” piece have to begin at Fire Island? If we do a movie on heart disease will it start at a restaurant in the Hamptons?

This is why I could never stand Larry Kramer. Despite his accomplishments, he’s still just a bitter queen, who can’t be happy because it wasn’t done HIS way, on HIS schedule. Why didn’t he make it with HIS money? Lord knows, he’s got a few influential and rich friends, hasn’t he? I won’t be watching, regardless of how groundbreaking or inspiring the story is, because I find the author’s attitude so repulsive.
