Screen-shot-2013-04-23-at-5.21.48-PM-360x220Jim Roth, One of the state’s first openly gay politicians was the victim of  a hate crime but police say they are not looking at it that way.

Roth, was assaulted outside of Grandad’s Bar in Oklahoma City, by three men.

Police said Roth got into a verbal altercation with a man who made some anti-gay comments. When Roth later walked outside the bar, he found himself attacked by three men.

“The victim was assaulted, he was not seriously hurt, but he was struck several times,” Oklahoma City police Master Sgt. Gary Knight said.

Oklahoma City police said, right now, they can’t classify what happened at Grandad’s hate crime.

However Roth and his friends claim it was definitely a hate crime.

“It’s definitely an assault case,” Knight said. “That’s what we’re working is an assault.”
