Democrat Mark Clayton won his party’s nomination for U.S. Senate in Tennessee, but Democrats are not supporting him. Clayton is a major anti-gay homophobe. He has worked for Public Advocate of the United States, which is not only anti-gay marriage group, but it also fights to deny gays ANY rights. From their website they are opposed to gay marriage and “furtherance of so-called ‘Gay Rights,’” . The Southern Poverty Law Center has designated them a hate group.
The Tennessee Democratic Party disavows his candidacy, will not do anything to promote or support him in any way, and urges Democrats to write-in a candidate of their choice in November.
The party said in a statement last week that the only time the insurance agent has voted in a Democratic primary “was when he was voting for himself” and that Clayton won simply because he was listed first on the ballot.
Clayton, whose website displayed “bandwith limit exceeded” error messages Monday, has worked for Public Advocate of the United States, a conservative group that opposes same-sex marriage, the “furtherance of so-called ‘Gay Rights,’” according to its website, and abortion rights legislation, among other initiatives.
Remember the Tennessee anti-gay bill “Don’t Say Gay” which would have banned any mention of homosexuality to elementary and middle school students that ultimately failed last year? Well Clayton delivered a letter from his hate group Public Advocate to state senators in support of a proposal. to The proposal, did pass the Senate 19-10. However, the companion bill failed in the House this year. That is still scarry.
Clayton said he believes marriage is between a man and a woman, as stated in the Tennessee Constitution.
“If Public Advocate is a hate group, then the state of Tennessee is a hate group,” he said.
Quite lofty of him to assume that all of Tennessee agrees with his ignorant bigoted brain. Clearly he is quite off the “mark”, His own party won’t even support him. I think that says it all.
